Calcaterra To Defend World 100K Title

An Italian ultra ace will return to defend his crown at the 26th IAU 100km World and European Championships in Seregno, Italy this Sunday.
Giorgio Calcaterra on the 25th edition by running 6:27:32. He will be challenged by fellow podium finishers Mike Wardian and Andrew Henshaw in this year’s event. Another pre-race favorite is the Italian, Alberico Di Cecco, who clocked 6:28:48 at the Passatore 100K. Spain’s Asier Cuevas is also expected to be in the mix.
Italy will be hosting the championships for the second time in four years. The location for the event, Seregno, is located in the northern part of the country. The race course is comprised of 20K loops.
In the women’s event, all eyes will be on defending champion Marina Zhalybina (nee Bychkova) of Russia. The podium finishers from the previous championships, Joanne Zakrzewski (GBR), and Lindsay Anne van Aswegen (RSA), are not taking part this year.
