Boston Runner Returns With A Mission

He was one mile short of the finish line at last year’s race.
Chris Young of Waltham, Mass. never got to finish the Boston Marathon last year. He was just one mile away from Copley Square when the two terrorist bombs detonated.
His wife, Erica Finch, had been waiting for him there near the Atlantic Fish Company just 25 feet away from where the second bomb exploded.
Finch took off away from the chaos and headed down the course until she was able to find her husband.
Unaware of what had happened, Young thought his wife just wanted to take his photo.
“My wife and friends saw a lot of things that no one should ever see,” Young recalled to Wicked Local.
Had Young stayed on his goal pace, he would have completed the marathon near the time when the bombs detonated.
“There is definitely a sense of incompletion,” he said.
But Young is coming back this year. He will once again race Boston — this time for the Waltham Boys & Girls Club where he serves as director of operations.
