‘Patriots’ Day’ Film About Boston Marathon Bombings in the Works
The major motion picture could start production this year.
Another major motion picture about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings is in the works, according to CBS Films, the studio behind the project.
The film, titled Patriots Day, will have five producers, including noted actor Mark Wahlberg. In addition to his production role, The Deadline reports that Wahlberg is also interested in one of the main acting roles, perhaps as Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis.
The Deadline reports that production could possibly begin in 2015, putting Patriots Day in a race with a similar film in the works from 20th Century Fox, titled Boston Strong.
Matt Charman will write the script for Patriots Day.
“There is nothing more compelling than a real story populated by real heroes,” said CBS Films president Terry Press, according to The Wrap. “The team that we have assembled for this project is determined to give audiences a very personal look at what occurred during the days when the eyes of the world were on the city of Boston and how a group of contemporary patriots faced this crisis.”
Wahlberg, of course, has previously starred in another famous film set in Boston. He received high acclaim for his role as a Massachusetts police detective in the Martin Scorsese film The Departed in 2006, garnering an Academy Award nomination.
