Boston Director Says Nothing Can Stop Runners

He contends that races are more popular than ever.

There’s no denying it: Dave McGillivray has a tough job.

He’s been the race director for the Boston Marathon for years and there’s now doubt that one of the toughest editions of the race he’s supervised was last year when two terrorist bombs detonated at the finish line of the storied race.

McGillivray recently spoke at the HealthPlus Crim Festival in Crim, Michigan and according to a report on the MLive Web site, he says that this tragedy didn’t put a dent into the future.

“There were a lot of victims in that [Boston Marathon] and not just those who were affected and harmed physically, but all of us in this room were victims in the bombings on April 15^th,” McGillivray said.”But we’ve turned a negative into a positive. I’ve directed 10 races since April 15^th and all of them have filled up faster than ever before. People are not running away. We will not be denied.”
