Big Celebration Awaits Rudisha

Huge homecoming on tap for 800-meter world record holder.

Kenya’s David Rudisha, who on Sunday broke his own world record for 800 meters exactly a week after breaking Wilson Kipketer’s mark which stood for 13 years prior, will be welcomed back to his home country in grand fashion when he returns next week.

To celebrate Rudisha’s return, fifty cows will be slaughtered in his home village of Oltanki, Kilgoris next week. Rudisha’s older brother Benson said the village will throw “the mother of all parties” when the world-record holder returns next week.

“All the arrangements are complete and we are set for the big party where 50 bulls will be slaughtered for guests,” said Benson.

At the IAAF World Challenge Meeting in Rieti, Italy on Sunday, Rudisha broke his week-old world record in the 800 meters, finishing in 1:41.01–eight one-hundredths of a second off the time he posted a week earlier.
