B.A.A. Changes Half Marathon Course

Popular road race will follow a slightly different route this year.

The 10th running of the B.A.A. Half-Marathon, Boston’s largest 13.1 mile (21.1 km) race, will be slightly different than the nine editions of the race which have preceded it.   The race is set for Sunday, October 10.

The competition, which has capped its field at an event-record 6,000 participants, will be starting and finishing at White Stadium, located in Boston’s Franklin Park.  The Stadium sits adjacent to the famous Franklin Park cross country course, the same course which played host to the 1992 IAAF World Cross Country Championships.  In previous years, the race has started and finished in the Back Bay Fens section of the city.

“Moving the start and finish of the B.A.A. Half-Marathon to Franklin Park for the event’s tenth anniversary has been a positive change for the race, and we expect runners will enjoy the venue,” said B.A.A. executive director Guy Morse through a statement.

Also different this year will be the run’s course direction, which has been reversed from previous years. Competitors will still run through Boston and Brookline’s Emerald Necklace park system.   

The elite field for the event, which will be vying for $30,000 in prize money, will be released in the coming weeks.
