After becoming the first Kenyan to win the world 1,500m title, Asbel Kiprop flew to Switzerland to race the Weltklasse Zürich. Yesterday, he appeared at the Jugend trainiert mit Weltklasse event, a kid’s clinic where children trained with top track and field athletes like Kiprop.

“The World title in Daegu was a great achievement especially after missing the podium in Osaka and Berlin where I finished fourth,” said Kiprop while at the event. “It will be a tough race against a great runner like Abubaker Kaki,” he added referring to his upcoming race later this week.  “I have a special memory of 2008 when I came to Zurich after the Olympic Games in Beijing.”

While interacting with the children, Kiprop recalled his days as a child in Kenya and his first experience as a middle-distance runner at the age of 13.

“I enjoyed interacting with children, answering their questions. Sometimes I go to schools in Kenya to talk with children”, he recalled.
