Are Ultra Marathons Good For The Sole?
One Canadian researcher is trying to find the answer to that question.
One Canadian researcher is trying to find the answer to that question.

Jennifer Copeland, a kinesiology professor at the University of Lethbridge in Canada is on a mission: She is studying the effects of ultra marathons on the legs and feet.
“At this point there’s nothing to suggest it’s bad for your health as long as you’re hydrating and fuelling properly and taking care of any injuries,” she says.
For the past two years, Professor Copeland has been studying how the body responds to the effects of up to 30 hours of sustained running. Previously, she had been focusing on women, but has switched to studying men this year.
“It makes it a really unique sort of thing to study from a physiological perspective because what you have are people of all ages doing this really extreme event and people who aren’t necessarily elite athletes and are actually doing it for enjoyment,” she said.
Specifically, Copeland’s studies involve the concept of “inflammatory response”.
