Another British Marathoner Back From Pregnancy

She hopes to use the London Marathon as a springboard.

With all the focus on Paula Radcliffe’s comeback, British marathoner Liz Yelling may be getting overlooked. Yelling placed 25 in the 2004 Olympic Marathon in Athens and was 26th in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. She took a break from running last year in order to give birth to her first child. This past Sunday, the 36-year-old champion took second in the Reading Half Marathon in England. Her time was one hour and 12 minutes. First place went to Edith Chelimo of Kenya who ran one hour 11 minutes and 22 seconds.

She will be competing in the Virgin London Marathon next month.

“The games are what motivates me to continue my running career into 2012.” she admits.

Yelling was pleased with her performance in Reading. “It is a good indicator of my form in preparation for the London Marathon,” she said. “It shows me where I’m at and how I’m performing before the race next month, as well as for other marathons that will qualify me for the Olympics.”

Yelling hasn’t competed in a marathon since Beijing. There she ran two hours, 28 minutes and 33 seconds.
