55,000 lucky applicants will be accepted in 2010.
For the second consecutive year the Atlanta Journal Constitution Peachtree Road Race will offer a majority of its registrants the option of signing up online. The Atlanta classic traditionally sold out through a mail-in-only registration system, but the race directors have moved to 45,000 entries available online and 10,000 available through the mail system. The first 45,000 to sign up online are guaranteed a spot, while the additional 10,000 will be picked by lottery from the pool of mailed-in registrations.
There will be two firsts for the 41-year-old race in 2010. The Atlanta Track Club will assign start positions be based on performance, rather than random draw. All entrants must submit a time from a USATF-sanctioned and -measured race for use in determining their start placement. Times from race distances of 5k, 8k/5m, 10k, 15k, 10m or 13.1m can be used for seeding purposes. Additionally, entrants will have the chance to pick up their bib numbers at the race expo, held downtown at the AmericasMart. Prior to 2010, all bib numbers were mailed to participants. If runners still want to have their bib mailed they will have to pay a $5 fee.
