For Jeannine Julson age is just a number. The avid marathoner has been running for years and isn’t willing to let her age slow her down. This past weekend she celebrated her 83rd birthday by running her 53rd marathon at the Twins Cities Marathon in Minneapolis.

According to CBS Minnesota Julson happily admits she is a back-of-the-pack runner, but is determined to keep going. “I want to keep running as long as I think I can do it. I don’t now how long that will be,” she told CBS.

The long-time Minnesota resident has averaged about two marathons a years since she ran her first marathon at 58 years old. This marathon, she told CBS, was more important than just a birthday celebration as she was running in support of her granddaughter, who is fighting a nerve tissue disorder.

At the front of the pack, Kenyan Sammy Malakwen, 33, won his first career marathon in Minneapolis in 2:13:11.
