2015 NYC Marathon Runner Application Closes Sunday

The application for entry to the 2015 New York City Marathon will close on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Those who haven’t yet applied can do so at tcsnycmarathon.org.

Runners looking for non-guaranteed entry make up the bulk of the field, which had more than 50,000 finishers last year. Three separate drawings will take place in March to decide who gets entry in the following three pools:

1. NYC-metro area applicants (residents in and within 60 miles of New York City)
2. National applicants (United States residents outside of the NYC-metro area)
3. International applicants (non-United States residents, including Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories)

The NYRR warns that applicants’ credit cards will be charged a non-refundable processing fee ($11) when they submit their application. And if their application is approved during one of the March drawings, the card will be charged the race entry fee ($216 for NYRR members, $255 for U.S. residents who aren’t NYRR members, and $347 for international runners). If the card is declined, the application will be denied and another name will be drawn.

Athletes may also gain entry into the race via guaranteed entry spots:

— Runners who selected guaranteed entry to the 2015 race through the 2012 resolution process. The 2012 NYC Marathon was canceled because of Hurricane Sandy.
— NYRR members who meet the 9+1 or 9+$1K program requirements.
— Entrants who canceled their entry into the 2014 NYC Marathon.
— Runners who have finished 15 NYC Marathons.
— Runners who meet the time qualification standards, outlined here.

Other methods of obtaining entry into the 2015 NYC Marathon are joining a charity and purchasing a marathon travel package if you live outside of the U.S. Also, athletes with disabilities may apply via a different method.

The 2015 New York City Marathon is scheduled for Nov. 1.
