California’s capital city hosted the World Masters Championships two years ago.
Next summer, California’s state capital will play host to the USA Outdoor Championships. The news was announced on the USATF’s website this week.
“Sacramento has a tremendous track & field culture and we are very pleased to be returning in 2014,” USATF CEO Max Siegel said. “The fan support in the region is fantastic, and the weather conditions serve sprinters, field event athletes and distance runners alike. We look forward to another successful partnership with the Sacramento Sports Commission.”
Not surprisingly, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson was pleased with the news.
“Sacramento has some of the most passionate sports fans in the United States and I have no doubt that this community will support the event and the athletes like no other region in the country could,” he said.
That city has hosted the championships twice before: first in 2000 and then in 2004.
Additionally, the World Masters Championships were held there two years ago.
