2014 U.S. Obstacle Course Championships

There will be four major obstacle racing championship events in the U.S. this fall.

The sport of obstacle course racing is becoming more and more competitive.

There will be four major obstacle racing championship events in the U.S. this fall with a combined prize purse of more than $500,000. Here’s a brief overview of each one.

Reebok Spartan Race World Championships
Date/Location: Sept. 20–21; Killington, Vt.
Distance/Duration: Courses are 3, 13 and 26 miles
Prize Purse: More than $300,000
Details: NBC will televise the third annual Spartan Race World Championships and several races leading up to the championships.

Warrior Dash World Championship
Date/Location: Oct. 18; Esparto, Calif.
Distance/Duration: 5K course with 12 obstacles
Prize Purse: $100,000
Details: This first-time championship event will be open to anyone finishing among the top 25 in the competitive wave of any Warrior Dash in the U.S.

OCR World Championships
Date/Location: Oct. 25-26; near Cincinnati, Ohio
Distance/Duration: 8-mile obstacle course
Prize Purse: $60,000
Details: This new, independent race is open to individuals and four-person teams that qualify through one of several hundred races worldwide.

World’s Toughest Mudder
Date: Nov. 15-16; Henderson, Nev. (near Las Vegas)
Distance/Duration: 24-hour race on a 5-mile course with numerous obstacles
Prize Purse: More than $60,000
Details: Although previously an invite-only event, the fourth annual WTM is open to anyone who shows up. The top male and female competitors will earn a $10,000 first prize, while the top four-person team will earn $12,000.
