This weekend, ultrarunners will head to Virginia for the 8th Annual Ultra Race of Champions (UROC) 100k on May 12. Along with a deep international elite field, this year’s race will also include 270 runners who will be participating in one of three courses: 100K, 50K and 25K.

Located in Skylark, the race will take place across the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering runners 360-degree views at various points of the course. “Having the chance to race UROC has been a dream of mine since I heard about the race in 2013. It is one of those big stages in ultrarunning where having a great day here can be a real defining moment in your career,” said Crosby in a statement.

Among the elite women’s field are runners names such as Amanda Basham, Samantha Creath, Lauren Head, Bethany Patterson, Erin Williams and Amy Rusiecki, among others. On the men’s side, you have competitors Michael Wardian, Stefano Ruzza (Italy), Zac Marion, Anthony Kunkel, Tyler Sigl, Zach Merrin and Anthony Kunkel, to name a few.

To set a new course record, the men’s lead will need to finish faster than Chris Mocko’s time of 8:56:39, while women will need to come in before Amanda Basham’s time of 11:09:14. However, this year’s weather may play a factor in finish times since its going to be around 83 degrees F, making it harder to reach faster speeds.

The race is sponsored by Hoka One One, Camelbak and Spike-Free with a cash prize of over $21,000. “I have been a fan of the Ultra Race of Champions since the start, and I am so very pleased to have the chance to be a part of UROC again,” said ultrarunner Michael Wardian. “I love the concept of one race on mixed terrain with one winner and fierce competition. We also get the opportunity to race on the East Coast, and I want to support my home state and local running community.”

Editor’s Note: The original post had incorrectly stated that Michael Wardian was an Olympian. Wardian has previously participated in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials Men’s Marathon.
