La Maratona Verticale, a new event at Copper Mountain ski resort near Frisco, Colo, attracted runners from all over the globe on July 26-27 to compete a full marathon, half marathon and a vertical kilometer. The event, produced by Bad to the Bone Endurance Sports, was part of the inaugural U.S. SkyRunning Series. Eric Ebeling (Boulder, Colo.) won the marathon, while Stevie Kremer (Crested Butte, Colo.) was the top woman (and third overall) in 4:10. John Tribbia (Salt Lake City) and Shawnie Mulligan (Superior, Colo.) prevailed in the leg- and lung-busting Vertical K races.

The U.S. SkyRunning Series consists of five Sky, five Ultra and four Vertical races, offering opportunities to run in some of the most beautiful locations around the country. Combined, the events include 309 miles of racing with more than 100,000 feet of vertical gain with inclines that push the best mountain runners to their limits and offer unique experiences for every competitor.
