The third edition of the Dolomiti Extreme Trail, which features a 53K race as well as a 20K option, took place this past Saturday in Val di Zoldo, a small village in the Belluno province of Italy. Some 250 runners from 30 countries took part in the event, including Competitor senior editor Mario Fraioli, who placed sixth in the 20K race. The 53K, which features nearly 12,500 feet of elevation gain, was won by Italian Federica Boifava, who broke the tape in 6 hours, 48 minutes and 30 seconds, over 8 minutes ahead of the top male finisher, Peter Kienzl, also of Italy. American Rick Floyd of Bend, Ore., a former professional triathlete, was the third overall finisher in the 53K, completing his first ultra-distance trail race in 7:02:44. Full results of the event can be found here.
