A stiff and awkward dance performance by Lolo Jones on Dancing with the Stars leads to her sudden departure from the show.

Three-time U.S. Olympian Lolo Jones may be an expert hurdler and bobsledder, but her performance on season 19’s premiere of Dancing with the Stars this past Monday has proven that the multi-sport athlete should not include “dancer” on her resume. Jones and her professional dance partner Keo Motsepe, a first-timer on the show, scored an overall 22 out of 40 points for their cha-cha routine, the second lowest score of the night. They were beat out by 72-year-old fashion designer Betsy Johnson and her partner, and thus sent home on Tuesday night’s elimination round.

The dance routine began with Jones mock-texting Motsepe, in which Jones initially claimed that a miscued text had thrown her off the entire dance. However she then took full responsibility and confessed to the judges on air, “I make no excuses. It was awful. I’m surprised I was able to get back with it. Literally, every practice was better than what just happened.”

A serious athlete, having competed in both the Winter and Summer Olympic Games and a two-time world indoor track champion in the 60-meter hurdles, Jones was fully committed to the show and visibly upset by her poor performance. According to The Hollywood Reporter Jones had cut her track season early to dedicate more of her time to nailing down the dances.

It was a good effort made on Jones’ part and it is certainly not an easy thing to dance flawlessly in front of millions of viewers, but better stick to the track for now Lolo.
