Many elite athletes turn to various nostrums and devices to help them to recover and stay injury-free, but it can be argued that former Stanford University standout Lauren Fleshman’s use of the ElliptiGO takes the cake.
What’s an ElliptiGO?
According to an article posted on the SF Gate Web site, it’s “the first outdoor, low-impact, fitness device specifically designed to emulate the running motion. It allows athletes of all levels to get a high-intensity workout without experiencing the repetitive impact of running.”
Fleshman, who is a two-time national champion, swears by them to help ward off injuries.
“I knew my body couldn’t tolerate running more than 80 miles per week, so I filled in gaps with the ElliptiGO,” Fleshman notes. “Instead of going out and putting the additional volume on my legs and joints, I rode it for the equivalent amount of time that I would be running, replacing some of my key training and recovery workouts.”
Fleshman hopes the newfangled device will help her reach the Olympic podium.
