Junk Miles: Raise Money and Race Against a Tiger
Help save an endangered species just by running.
Help save an endangered species just by running.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) challenges you to run against the Amur Tiger found in southeastern Russia in hopes of raising money and awareness to save an endangered species. Using a partnered running app such as Runkeeper, Strava or MapMyRun, you can log your miles against the tiger’s miles covered that day tracked by a GPS tag on one of the tigers. Your mileage and time is then displayed on the WWF Tiger Challenge website along with other participants. Runners who fail to match the tiger’s mileage of the day have the option of donating at least $5. On average the Amur Tiger runs 12 miles per day and can get up to a speed of 50 miles per hour.
Only 450 Amur Tigers are left in the world. Thus, another virtuous reason to run. #Run4Tiger
